Isle of Thanet
Situated on the south-eastern tip of Kent, the Isle of Thanet covers an area of approximately 30 square miles and has three principal resorts - Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate.
Margate was one of the first seaside resorts in Britain and still offers all the traditional seaside pleasures - from sandcastles to donkey rides. Margate is home to Dreamland Fun Park, the largest coastal leisure complex in the South of England. The park features a 1,000 metre rollercoaster, which is the UK’s oldest operating wooden scenic railway (from 1921).
Broadstairs promenade has charming gardens, great for relaxing, whilst a clifftop stroll uncovers seven beautiful beaches and bays.
Quirky little lanes have tiny flint houses, fishermen’s cottages and small shops selling unusual wares. The quiet charm of Broadstairs belies the entertainment opportunities such as the annual Dickens Festival and Folk Week and a full summer entertainment programme.
Ramsgate has a fleet of fishing boats which still land their catch daily. Over £90 million has been spent on rejuvenating the Royal Harbour and marina and now there are delightful pubs, pavement cafés and a Maritime Museum on the seafront.
